Pre-Operative Instructions

Proper preparation is key to a safe, comfortable surgical experience. Please follow these instructions carefully before your appointment.

Important: These instructions apply to patients receiving IV sedation or general anesthesia. If you are having a procedure under local anesthesia only, please contact our office for specific instructions.

Before Your Surgery

1

Eating & Drinking

Do not eat or drink anything — including water — for at least 8 hours before your scheduled surgery time. An empty stomach is required for safe administration of IV sedation.

2

No Smoking

Do not smoke for at least 12 hours before your surgery. Ideally, reduce or stop smoking as early as possible before your procedure. Smoking can affect anesthesia and healing.

3

Avoid Marijuana

Avoid all marijuana use (smoking, edibles, or other forms) for at least 24-48 hours before your procedure. Marijuana can interfere with anesthesia and sedation medications.

4

Arrange a Driver

A responsible adult must accompany you to our office, remain in the office during your procedure, and drive you home afterward. You will not be permitted to drive, take a rideshare alone, or operate machinery for 24 hours following anesthesia.

5

Clothing & Accessories

Wear loose, comfortable clothing with sleeves that can be rolled up past the elbow. Wear flat, low-heeled shoes. Remove contact lenses, jewelry, and dentures before surgery. Do not wear lipstick, heavy makeup, or nail polish.

6

Illness

If you develop any illness before your surgery — such as a cold, sore throat, fever, or stomach issues — please call our office immediately. Your procedure may need to be rescheduled.

7

Medications

If you take routine prescription medications, please consult with your surgeon before your surgery date for specific instructions on which medications to take or hold on the day of surgery.
